Nahid Shirzadkhan
To make a significant impact in the field of design, one must possess a keen eye for detail and the ability to identify emerging opportunities, gaps and crafting innovative archetypes. With nearly two decades of experience, Nahid embodies these essential qualities. Raised by a professional mechanical engineer and industrial designer, Nahid's early exposure to the world of design was profoundly shaped by her father, who served as a constant source of inspiration. From the age of five, she accompanied him to their family factory, where she gained invaluable insights as she observed him design intricate machinery. This formative experience ignited her passion for design and guided her career path.
Building on this early foundation, Nahid embarked on her formal journey in design with a Bachelor of Design in Industrial Design in 2010, followed by a Master of Architecture in 2016 in Iran. Her quest for further knowledge led her to the United States in 2021, where she pursued a second Master of Design in Industrial Design at the University of Illinois Chicago, graduating in 2023. Currently, she leverages her extensive background as a Senior Designer at TEAMS Design Chicago and as a Lead Design Expert at the Center for Canine Behavior Studies.
Designer Statement: In an increasingly complex and dynamic world, I understand that design plays a crucial role in maintaining cohesion and addressing diverse needs. I believe that effective design is grounded in empathy and a holistic consideration of all living beings. For me, design extends beyond mere aesthetics and functionality; it holds the power to educate, reduce risks, improve lives, and strengthen relationships between humans and non-humans. I am committed to viewing the world from the perspective of non-human creatures and exploring how design can promote equitable moral consideration for human and non-human animals. My passion lies in advancing solutions for animal health and welfare, particularly for pets such as cats and dogs. I am dedicated to creating designs that enhance animal well-being while strengthening the bond between animals and their human companions.
